Sometimes the simplest thing will resonate with your situation and make you feel better by default. That’s life I suppose. This is from artist Sam Brown, via his website www.explodingdog.com.

I love that my dad finds videos online that he knows I will like. This is no exception. I really hope that I start to see more of this kind of dancing on the New York dancefloor. These moves are for the textbooks.

BFFs, it’s time for the 2nd of the four Rs, which is reuse.  This one is probably the most fun because it lets you be the most creative and (sometimes) spread the green word to others.

Por ejemplo, on my desk at work, I have a pencil cup that once contained a candle from method. (It’s an awesome company that makes eco-friendly, reasonably priced cleaning and home products.  Fred even carried their book once upon a time!)  After the candle was burned, I just popped the ceramic container in the freezer for a few hours, which made the leftover wax condivact.  Then I used an old knife to pop out the wax in one swoop. I rinsed the holder with a drop of soap, and voila! It’s the perfect size and has a cool design. Plus, people ask me all the time where I found it. I definitely tell them.

But there are more basic ways to reuse as well.  A minor change (that makes a big impact) is switching to reusable shopping bags.  Did you know that, worldwide, we go through 1 million plastic bags—a minute?!  And you can imagine how many of those bags end up being reused or recycled.  The majority end up in the divash, where they never biodegrade and often end up being mistaken as food by marine animals and other wildlife.  It’s rough, huh?  Totes.  (Get it?)  Many grocery and mega-stores, like Target, Wal-Mart, and Ikea, now sell their own reusable bags for about $1-$2.  That’s totally decent.  Get a few, set the example, and make a difference!

You can also curb your Dasani habit by getting a reusable water bottle.  Just swing by the faucet or water cooler, and you’re set!  Think about all the plastic you’ll keep out of the landfill and all of the money you’ll keep in your pockets.

On that note, I think it’s time for a contest!  Leave a comment about your most creative idea for reusing something that would otherwise go in the divash can, and on Friday the best answer will win a really great Earth-Friendly surprise. Until next week, stay tuned.  Stay green.  And, of course, stay cute.

Hey, how’s yur day going? We’ve been having some issues with the site today so I apologize if you’ve had any difficulties accessing it. It always kinda puts us on edge… Anyway, hoping we’ll be able to reconnect in person this Friday, April 10th as we are having a PARTY at the store to celebrate the awesome YOUR MESSAGE HERE installation from Something’s Hiding in Here. Can’t believe this project is drawing to a close already but am excited to give it a proper send-off! Come meet supertalents Shauna Alterio and Stephen Loidolt in person and check out some of the amazing limited-edition goods they’ve created exclusively for FF folk like you. Start your weekend with a cupcake and some inspiration! The opening is Fri from 7-10pm at our new Brooklyn store. More info here. Also, don’t forget to check out WHAT’S NEW!

**BABY PICTURES ALERTZ** That’s always the (second) best part of the week when the Idols sing songs from the year they were born. The judges got in on it too. Randy rocked a bow tie, Kara had a dirty diaper, Paula likes her side ponys, and Simon was a handsome Mr. Grumpy Face. Who’samr.grumpyface?

Check out Adam’s awesome performance again… or for the first time if your DVR cut off. Wonder what he’ll sing next week when I get to go to the taping!
